Cheeseburger & Fries Musical Officially Greenlit!

It's official: Cheeseburger & Fries: The Musical will make its world premiere at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, on Thursday, September 3, 2009.

The show had previously been announced as being a musical solely via diagetic music (music that occurs naturally and realistically in the context of the story, like being performed by musicians, heard over radio or TV, played on record players, etc.) However, that has changed. It's now going to be an over-the-top-and-beyond total Broadway-style spectacle, with ornately costumed showgirls leaping in the air, waving batons, and singing about lemonade amid explosions and confetti.

Did I say Broadway-style? Actually, it will probably owe more stylistically to Elvis' movie musical period.

Did I say spectacle? Well, a spectacle on a shoestring budget anyway. But there will be full frontal nudity.

The show tells the improbable-yet-true story of Cheeseburger and Fries, rural louts who discovered the key to the universe from playing the Blues for pennies on street corners.

Did I say the Blues? Specifically, it's The Creeps - it's kinda like the Blues, but much weirder. If you gots the Creeps, you gots the Blues anyway.

Watch the Catclaw blog for further updates as I continue to work on the libretto through the Spring.
