Artist Tom Neely has curated an art show and simultaneously published a book hinged on the concept of asking underground cartoonists to come up with gag cartoons (for those of you not knee deep in comics culture that's merely a cartoon that usually has a single image and usually a short line of text, a quick joke, a "gag"). The art show kicks off in L.A. Sept. 3rd and the book is out now.
The line up of artists is like a hep comix cheat sheet (I'm under contract to say that 'cause I'm on the list, but, not counting me, it's dangerously true):
Andrice Arp, Marc Bell, Elijah J. Brubaker, Shawn Cheng, Chris C. Cilla, Michael DeForge, Kim Deitch, J. T. Dockery, Theo Ellsworth, Austin English, Eamon Espey, Robert Goodin, Julia Gfrörer, Levon Jihanian, Juliacks, Kaz, David King, Tom Neely, Anders Nilsen, Scot Nobles, Jason Overby, John Porcellino, Jesse Reklaw, Tim Root, Zak Sally, Gabby Schulz, Josh Simmons, Ryan Standfest, Kaz Strzepek, Matthew Thurber, Noah Van Sciver, Dylan Williams, Chris Wright
I could yap all day, but cap'n Neely sums it all up better than me with all the pertinent info on the show/book and plenty of images on his blog.
It's the comics event of the season. Don't get left standing with your cheese hanging in the breeze. Join the gag army!

Not only one Kaz, but two, and a Zak to boot.
All this and the Honorable Elijah J. Brubaker too.
But who's this J.T. Dockery character? Once you let us hillbillies in, they lay eggs and it's hell to git 'em out. Show 'em how we do this, Laurel County style, J to the T to the D.
